The History of the Forge

The Forge Restaurant is an 18th century old stone cut building with original features. Tucked away in North Meath on the Meath/Cavan border.

Built by the Napper family of Oldcastle in the 18th Century it traded as a forge with two tenanted cottages detached from the Forge. The Old Forge - Image One

The Forge of late was renowned as a place to go and get your horse shod or cart wheel rimmed and progressed into a place renowned for a chat and a good old tale to be had. In simple form it was a place where you could go and see a man working over a hot furnace and providing a service and somewhere to have a good chat and to socialise.

Nothing has changed only that it is a restaurant now. It still is somebody working over a hot stove providing a service to the public and also a place to go and have a chat and to socialise.

The Forge Restaurant has currently been open since 2000. It's quaint setting, relaxed atmosphere, good service and the lack of hustle and bustle has been an important part of its continuing success. Pauric and Irene along with their team pride themselves on their good quality food and service.
